NaNoWriMo - Day 4 - People day

Those pesky characters seem to be always getting in the way.

And no matter how much you think you have that character down, they always find a new way to surprise you.

Of course, these people are mostly an amalgam of characteristics that you've observed over a long period of time.

I used to sit at the railway station at busy times to observe people and filled a dozen notebooks with both characteristics and eccentricities.

A little backpedaling is required.  I know there isn't time for revisions, but there are 'glaring' mistakes, even for a first draft which is not meant to be perfect.

As they say, moving on...

Here’s the thing... Every time I close my eyes, I see something different. I’d like to think the cinema of my dreams is playing a double feature but it’s a bit like a comedy cartoon night on Fox. But these dreams are nothing to laugh about. Once again there's a new installment of an old feature, and we’re back on the treasure hunt. The scene was set. Boggs and I had been browbeaten, and he had, willingly he said, given up the real map.  I was beginning to think Boggs had no idea what the real map was, there were so many different variations of it. A picture paints ... well, as many words as you like.  For instance: And, then, the words: I had a lot to think about. It was one of the main reasons why I chose a relatively remote resort to get away from the pressures and distractions of everyday life. You see, I just got made redundant from a job that I thought was mine for life, and with it came a litany of platitudes and half-truths and downright lies from a hatchet man, rather than the person who should have faced me. The point is, the owner of the company I worked for was someone I had respected.  We had started out together, not as partners, but as close to having a partnership as was possible. My only problem at the time was I didn't have the money to put up, so we had an agreement. A picture paints ... well, as many words as you like.  For instance: And, then, the words: 200 acres of manicured gardens was an understatement.  I could see only a small part of them from the front gate, as my car drew level with the front entrance. Ahead of me, and every other visitor was the driveway, and either side a continuous row of multicoloured roses. Invitations were being collected and participants directed to the specially allotted car parking spaces in a tree-lined area not far from the main house, or should I say mansion  It was so large it was visible from about two miles away, the most visible parts the two towers at the end of the East and West wings, where I was told there were spectacular views of the ocean one way and the hills the other.
